03–04 Oct 1993 · Mogadishu, Somalia

Operation Gothic Serpent

On 3 October 1993, Task Force Ranger launched into Mogadishu, Somalia, as part of Operation Gothic Serpent. The objective was clear: capture high‑value targets tied to warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid.

The fight that followed lasted into 4 October and became one of the most intense urban battles American forces had faced since Vietnam. When aircraft went down and the plan broke apart, the mission became something larger than the raid itself. It became a fight for the men beside them. They moved through fire. They held their ground. They went back for their brothers.

Nineteen Americans were killed during the battle. Seventy‑three were wounded. Nineteen are often remembered in connection with Mogadishu and its immediate aftermath.

This roast honors the Rangers, Delta operators, Night Stalkers, airmen, and rescuers who fought through the longest night. Not for glory. Not for legend. For each other.

The name on the label, Noctua Operandi, is the same mark Evan signs on every Founder Roast, but this crest only shows up once.

Behind The Art

U.S. Navy Veteran | Josh Raulerson

“When I was given the opportunity to refresh the Gothic Serpent bag, I wanted to use the design to tell more of the story. The original had been around for a few years, and this felt like a chance to dig deeper into one of the most intense chapters of modern U.S. military history. I built in factual details, references, and Easter eggs surrounding the operation so there’s more to discover the longer you look at it. Those details gave the design more character, but they also helped ground it in the real history behind the artwork. Above everything, I wanted the finished bag to serve as a tribute to the men who were there and tell their story with respect.”
